# API rules and resource limits

This page lists the limits on file sizes, requests per hour and minute, and other restrictions on using the Rooms API.

## File size limits

Docusign Rooms has the following limitations on files:

* 35 MB per upload
* 25 MB per upload to an envelope within a room

## HTTP request limits

The maximum request size for an incoming HTTP request is 40 MB.

## API rules and limits

Hourly API usage is tracked from the time of the first call. For example, if your first call is made at 10:15, the limit would refresh at 11:15.

If you exceed the API rate limit, you will receive an error: ‘The maximum number of hourly API invocations has been exceeded.’
