# API rules and resource limits

This topic describes the rules and resource limits the Click API enforces for all calling integrations.

## Request limits

To maintain reliability and stability within our demo and production environments, Docusign operates with certain API call efficiency guidelines. To ensure effective load balance, we continually monitor the API calls to our backend systems, and we will contact developers that are putting unnecessary burden on the system.

Docusign Click API integrations may not exceed the following API request limits:

* Your app may not exceed 3,000 requests per hour per account. You can monitor the number of API calls your application uses by checking the API limit headers that are returned in the response to API requests in both the production and demo environments. Hourly API usage is tracked from the start of one hour to the start of the next hour (for example, 1:00 PM–2:00 PM).
* Your app can only make 3,000 API calls of any type per unique elastic template per hour.

> **Note**: A shorter, 30-second burst limit is also implemented for all Click API calls. This limit can prevent you from making large numbers of calls in very short periods of time. If you exceed the API rate limit, you will receive the error: "The maximum number of hourly API invocations has been exceeded."

## File size limit

There is a limit of 25 MB per document upload.

## HTTP request limits

The maximum request size for an incoming HTTP request is 30 MB. Note that request length is different from document limits such as the maximum page count.
