The Agreement Desk API enables you to create and manage Agreement Requests programmatically. An agreement request represents a trackable record for one of your business or legal needs and acts as a container for all actions, discussion, review, and negotiation associated with that agreement, including support for AI agent-review against legal playbooks, flagging of high-risk terms, and suggestions for alternative language. In addition to creating, monitoring, and configuring agreement requests through the API, your users can track their agreement requests through a centralized UI dashboard in [Agreement Desk](https://www.docusign.com/products/agreement-desk). The [Agreement Desk API early access](/docs/agreement-desk-api/agreement-desk-api-early-access) (EA) release supports a subset of the functionality available in the Agreement Desk UI. See [Agreement Desk API early access](/docs/agreement-desk-api/agreement-desk-api-early-access) for details on the early access release, including on how to request access. ## API flow summary A common integration flow is: 1. Authenticate and obtain an access token. 2. List active request types by calling the `GET /v1/accounts/{accountId}/request-types` endpoint. 3. Select a request type and retrieve its fields by calling the `GET /v1/accounts/{accountId}/request-types/{requestTypeId}/fields` endpoint. 4. Map and validate source-system values. 5. Create the Agreement Request. 6. Store the request ID and request URL. 7. Submit or update the data for your request type. 8. Upload or generate documents. 9. Track statuses, approvals, messages, activity, and document versions. 10. Hand off to workflow, eSignature, external collaboration, or Agreement Manager as needed. ## When to use Agreement Desk API Agreement Desk and the Agreement Desk API are services that support your team’s internal contract intake and review processes. Agreement Desk consolidates and simplifies the process of agreement intake, review, and approval into a single central system for management and tracking, while also providing AI-assistance options for categorizing, extracting information, and reviewing agreement requests. Use Agreement Desk API to: * **Centralize intake**: Centralize all contract requests to flow through one channel rather than via a multitude of ad-hoc emails. * **Automate triage**: Use agents classify and route requests based on business rules. * **Accelerate review**: Apply an AI-powered playbook review to flag risky terms and suggest pre-approved alternatives. * **Govern approvals**: Implement transparent routing with audit trails to replace informal sign-offs. Agreement Desk and Agreement Desk API also integrate into the broader capabilities IAM platform. * You can build Agreement Desk agreement request intake steps into Workflow Builder workflows, integrating it into your broader workflows and system. * Once Agreement Desk review and approval is complete, you can obtain signatures and finalize agreements using Docusign eSignature.. * After an agreement is finalized, signed agreements are routed to Agreement Manager for storage, analysis, and ongoing management. ## Agreement Desk API and Workspaces API Agreement Desk API and Workspaces API provide similar but complimentary services. They both provide a central space for agreements to be reviewed and approved, but each services covers a different set of use cases: * Workspaces API provides a shared space where multiple parties collaborate on a transaction together. It supports external, customer-facing reviews such as client and new hire onboarding. * Agreement Desk handles internal review and approval for agreements. It helps your legal/procurement team manage incoming contract requests, review terms against playbooks, and route approvals Both services can be used together to support a more complete agreement process. For example, you can use Agreement Desk to handle agreement request intake, internal review and approval, then pass the documents into Workspaces API for sharing the finalized documents with external parties for completion. ## Next steps * Learn about [Agreement Desk API use cases](/docs/agreement-desk-api/use-cases). * See details about [Agreement Desk API concepts](/docs/agreement-desk-api/concepts). > Learn about what the Agreement Desk API enables you to do, when to use it, and how it works. ## Docs - [Agreement Desk API concepts](https://developers.docusign.com/docs/agreement-desk-api/concepts.md): Learn about important concepts and objects used by the Agreement Desk API. - [Agreement Desk API use cases](https://developers.docusign.com/docs/agreement-desk-api/use-cases.md): See how you can use the Agreement Desk API to support your business use case.
